How can you be hypnotized to forget someone?

  • Although it may be possible to be hypnotised to forget someone, this is generally not advised for many reasons.
  • But first I would like to clarify my view of “forgetting”. Some experts posit that forgetting is the equivalent of deleting a memory; whereas I am more of the position that forgetting is moving that memory to a trash folder.
  • The difference is subtle; in deleting we assume the whole “file” totally disappears; but in the latter example, the file is reduced to a “cache” and placed in a “miscellaneous” folder where it cannot affect running processes but is available for review.
  • There are many language patterns and suggestions that would lead to erasing the memory of a face or a name or an identity; however these are to be used with caution. The memory is there for a reason so at least the protective vaue or learning value fro that memory should be adressed by the hypnotist as best practice.
  • As for forgetting a person, understand that the person is represented by a chain of experiences or memories, and by a name, and an identifiable face. The suggestions would be directed and deleting and replacing each representation of this person with a suitable substitute. This can be dangerous if the memories are emotionally charged and traumatic as one can expect the emotional charge to transfer onto the substitute object.
  • If the person to be forgotten had caused trauma it is much more useful to guide your client to neutralising the trauma first (rewind technique; double dissociation; healing inner child) and then going back to the individual memories and changing them so that the person they want to forget does something neutral or positive. Change the memory so that it had never happened in the clients mind or it happened positively. A mirror opposite of everything wrong with the memory.
  • Dont worry about ethics they will know the new memory is false and they will understand that either version is equally false. Pre-talk is all about setting them up for the process. This process is exhaustively explained Robert Gene in his free YouTube Video series on fasterEFT.
