What differentiates a person who is extremely susceptible to hypnotic suggestions from a person who cannot be hypnotized?

  • There are no people who cannot be hypnotized.
  • There are varying degrees of succeptibility to hypnotic suggestions and there are three main factors controlling this degree:
  • Willingness/investment
  • Absorption and focus
  • Acceptability of suggestions
  • All three items are in the control of the hypnotist. There is no such thing as a person who can’t be hypnotized. But there are people who won’t be hypnotized by you.
  • For everybody else who want to be hypnotized, how susceptible they are to suggestions is a function of the hypnotists’
  • Rapport Building Skills
  • Efficacy at clearing misconceptions
  • Ability to produce acceptable suggestions
